    Brandon!

Congratulations on your first podcast! As a weekly radio show host for 5 years, I absolutely applaud you! It's amazing how many excuses we can come up with to postpone using new technologies to create content that spread our ideas. I work from home too and we have young kids so I know what you mean. But we can't let that stop us. It is what it is and we work with what we have. If you have to be in a closet, so be it. Actually, that's part of the reason it makes your content so unique and interesting. I like what you are doing and am looking forward to your next podcast!

    I'm listening, Brandon! You go!!!

Congrats Brandon! Enjoyed your first podcast. You touched on a lot of excellent points about things and excuses that we use in business where we hold ourselves back.

I heard a speaker recently who was talking about how many of us feel like we have to start out as young married couples with the things that it may have taken our parents 20 or 30 years of work to achieve, going into debt and causing lots of related problems for ourselves as a result.

That got me to thinking the same about business or starting a new venture — we compare ourselves to veteran bloggers / podcasters, etc who have built their success and following over time and with lots of trial and error. So we start out with unreasonable expectations and set ourselves up for fear, doubt and disappointment. When what we should be doing is… just doing it and not worrying about what 'everyone else' is doing and just focusing on delivering the best we can and continuing to build and grow.

Looking forward to future podcasts! Keep it up!

    Donna Maria,

You must have read my mind because I was thinking about you a lot in preparing for (and finally doing) my podcast. I thought things like, “Do your kids interrupt you constantly?” “Where do you find the time to do your show, much less the continual ideas?”

I look forward to the chance of interviewing you for a future podcast! Thanks again for being one of my first listeners–it means a lot.

    Neil,

Thanks so much for tuning in! I have also enjoyed watching you join the ranks of web entrepreneurs and making that dream happen, in a tough economy. You are one of the people who has also listened to me pontificate for a year before finally taking action. Congratulations to you on launching The Freelance Show–I wish you much success with that! http://freelanceshow.com

Oh man! Now I have to start MY podcast! :)
Thanks for telling us about your kick in the pants… and giving us a kick in the pants!

  6. Andy Ciordia aka Ciordia9 Says:

Haha, good job Brandon and welcome to GTD and moving forward. I've been a GTD geek for a looong time now. David says we all fall down, we all fall off the horse, but it's how well we get back up that defines us. GTD gives us a framework to always know we can climb back up whenever we fall down. I don't get as upset now when my desk gets cluttered or my inbox hits 1200, I know all I have to do is break out my methods and get back to decluttering, making projects, next actions, and everything will be all right.

  7. Andy Ciordia aka Ciordia9 Says:

Oh yea, I wanted to give you a tip on recording. Not that I do a lot of it currently but I was heavy into Pod/Vid casts for a while. Break it up into sections either by category or time and stop the recorder. Then start and continue. Then if you mess up a little bit you don't have to go back to the beginning you go back to your last segment. Then as time goes on if you need to mix your media with other media or interviewees or whatnot you've got a lot more cleanly stopped clips to work with instead of trying to cut/splice/fade/fade/splice your material unnaturally.

    Cheers,

    -a

Great start. Sounded great. Couldn't tell you were in a closet! What is the date for your next podcast? I'll put in on my followup schedule and get after you if it is not up!

Need to trade NYC stories next time we get together as I did not know that you spent time there too.

  9. BrandonUttley Says:

Matt, I'm glad you found it! You told me your iPod is a “hungry beast,” so I hope to give you more to listen to soon.

  10. BrandonUttley Says:

Andy, great points about the benefits of David Allen's GTD system. Of course we all get off course every once in awhile–it's inevitable. But haven't a good methodology can help you clear out the cobwebs more quickly and get back on task.

  11. BrandonUttley Says:

Andy, that's another great tip! I should've thought about that. I recorded this show three times, since after the first two I hit the wrong button and scrapped everything. So much for actually reading the manual! Breaking it up is a much better technique to begin with.

  12. BrandonUttley Says:

Larry, thanks for listening. I will put a stake in the ground to do a podcast a month for now. So check back in 30 days if you don't see another one!

    Good for you.

My iPod IS a very hungry beast. It seems like a lot of the old stand-by podcasts are podfading. My feed used to have over 100 new episodes to chew… now it only has 20!

I need more content! Hey, fans of marketing podcasts: What are you all listening to (besides Brandon's very excellent new podcast)? My fav's (again, other than Brandon) are: Internet Business Mastery, Managing the Gray, Marketing Over Coffee, Media Artist Secrets TV, and Six Pixels of Separation.

    What am I missing?
